Information About Data Cleaning And Data Services

Why Is Data Cleansing So Important?

Data analysts can receive data from many sources. These data may come in many formats and, more often than you think, contain “dirty” information. These data won’t be available for analysis immediately, so it’s important to clean them up first.

What Is Dirty Data?

Dirty data is any data that needs to be modified or altered in order to be analysed. There are two types of dirty data. Incomplete data, which is a spreadsheet with missing values. These data would be useless for your analysis. If you wish to examine the relationship between these variables, data for customer age and monthly purchase is necessary. If you don’t know the customer’s ages, it’s possible to deal with incomplete data. Duplicate data refers to records that appear twice in the same database or more than once. This can occur when data is merged from different sources or databases. Inconsistent or inaccurate data – Data that has been out of date, or is prone to structural errors such as typos, inconsistency capitalization, or irregular naming conventions. Let’s suppose you have a set of student test scores. Some students are classified as Pass or Fail while others are classified as P or F. However, the naming convention can make it difficult to differentiate between them. It is important to know what kind of dirty data you have so that you can decide how to clean it. Spend some time reviewing the data you have collected or received to determine where to focus your cleaning efforts.

Data Cleaning: Garbage in and Garbage Out

You might have heard the phrase “Garbage In and Garbage Out”, also known as GIGO. GIGO, a term that comes from computer science, basically means that if you have flawed data, you will get flawed results. Data analytics requires high-quality, clean data to perform meaningful and reliable analyses. If you don’t clean your data, it’s impossible to analyse them. If you do your data cleaning correctly, you will be able create something reliable, lasting, and strong. Your analysis will quickly fall apart if you don’t do it right or skip it altogether. 60% of data experts spend their time cleaning data. Not only is it a bad idea, but it can also result in costly mistakes over the long-term. When you present data analysis recommendations and draw conclusions, it is important to feel confident. Only if your data is properly cleaned can this be achieved.

Northwest Database Services has 34+ years experience with all types of data services, including mail presorts, NCOA, and data deduplication. If your database systems are not returning poor data, it is definitely time for you to consult with a data services specialist. We have experience with large and small data sets. Often, data requires extensive manipulation to remove corrupt data and restore the database to proper functionality. Call us at (360)841-8168 for a consultation and get the process of data cleaning started as soon as possible.

City of Lansing MI Information

Lansing MI

The capital of the United States state of Michigan is Lansing. It is located mainly in Ingham County. However, some areas extend west into Eaton County or north into Clinton County. According to the 2020 census, the city was home to 112,644 people. This makes it the sixth-largest city in Michigan. Its metropolitan statistical area (MSA), which was the third-largest in the state, was 541 297 at the 2020 Census. It was named the state capital of Michigan in 1847, ten year after Michigan became a state.

History

Hugh Heward, a British fur trader and his French-Canadian crew were the first to be recorded to have traveled through the area now known as Lansing. They did so while canoeing along the Grand River. In dense forest, the land that would become Lansing was first surveyed in February 1827 as “Township 4 North Range2 West”. This was the last survey of county townships. The land was not available for sale until October 1830. For decades, there would not be any roads in this area.

Climate

The Midwestern humid continental climate of Lansing is influenced greatly by the Great Lakes. It is also part of USDA Hardiness Zone 5b. Winters can be cold and snowy with heavy to moderate snowfall. Summers are warm and humid. The July average temperature is 71.5 degrees F (21.9 degrees Celsius), and the January average is 23.4 degrees F (-4.8°C). The annual mean is 48.21 degrees Fahrenheit (9.01 degC). Temperatures average to reach or exceed 90 degrees F (32.2 degC) every 8.8 days and fall to or below zero (-17.8degC) every 10.5 nights. The summer is when precipitation is most intense, but it’s still quite common and significant in winter.

Demographics

The 2010 census showed that the city had 114,297 residents, 48,450 households and 26,234 families. The density of the population was 3,174.9 people per square mile (1.225.8/km2). At an average density 1,505.0/square mile (581/km2), there were 54,181 housing units. CATA has the second highest ridership in Michigan, behind Detroit. It had 53,000 daily rides in September 2008, and 11306,339 rides during fiscal 2008. CATA also offers paratransit services via Spec-Tran or the “Night Owl” The “Entertainment Express”, (CATA route 4), runs from Thursday to Saturday, 7pm to 2am, connecting downtown Lansing and East Lansing with the entertainment districts. CATA was awarded the America’s Best Transit Award by APTA in the medium-size category (between 4 and 30 million rides) in 2007. CATA operates two transportation centers (CTC) in Lansing, one on the campus at Michigan State University. A study was done in 2010 to examine ways of improving the Lansing–to-East Lansing route (currently called Route 1) with options such as enhanced bus service, single car trolley service and light railway service. The heavy rail option was dropped early on, but the enhanced bus service won out.
