Kansas City, also known as “KCK”, and the county seat for Wyandotte County, is the third-largest U.S. city. [1] It’s an inner suburb of Kansas City, Missouri. The city’s population was 156,607 at the 2020 census. It is one of four major cities in the Kansas City metropolitan region. It is located at Kaw Point, where the Missouri and Kansas rivers meet. It is part of the “Unified Government”, a consolidated county-city government. It is home to the University of Kansas Medical Center as well as Kansas City Kansas Community College.
History
Kansas City was “old” in October 1872. By order of Judge Hiram Stephens of the Tenth Judicial District on October 22, 1872, the first city election took place. It resulted in James Boyle being elected Mayor. After the organization of the city, its mayors were C. A. Eidemiller and A. S. Orbison. Eli Teed was also elected. John St. John, Governor of Kansas, declared Kansas City a second-class city in June 1880. Mayor McConnell was also present.
Climate
Kansas City is located in the Midwestern United States. It’s also near the center of the country at the confluence between the Missouri River and the Kansas River (also called the Kaw River). It is located in the humid continental climate zone with four seasons and moderate precipitation. The city is also part of USDA plant hardiness zones 6. River transportation was an important part of early Kansas City, Kansas. Its location at the confluence between the Missouri River and the Kansas River made it easy to trade. The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority offers transportation to 60k riders each day. Although not the first to be constructed, a portion of I-70 was completed under the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956.
