City of Buckeye AZ Information
Buckeye, a city located in Maricopa County in Arizona, United States is the westernmost suburb of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The population of Buckeye was 91,502 at the 2020 census, up from the 50,876 and 6,537 respectively in 2010. For 2017 and 2018, it was the fastest growing city in the United States.
Malie M. Jackson, an early settler, developed 10 miles (16km) of the Buckeye canal from 1884-1886. He named it after Ohio’s nickname, “The Buckeye State”. The original name of the town, “Sidney”, was given to it in 1888. The canal’s significance led to the name change to Buckeye. In 1910, Buckeye was legalized. In 1929, the town was organized. It included 440 acres (180 ha). Hugh M. Watson (1956-1958), the founder of Buckeye Valley Bank, was the town’s first mayor. Watson Road today is the city’s main commercial district.
Buckeye enjoys a desert climate with plenty of sunshine thanks to the steady descending air from the eastern side the subtropical anticyclone at sea level and above the southwestern United States.
