Durham, a U.S. city, is the county seat for Durham County. A small portion of Durham’s city limits extend into Orange County, Wake County, and other counties. Durham, with a population of 283,506 according to the 2020 census is the fourth-most populous North Carolina city and the 74th most populous in the United States. It is located east of the Piedmont region, along the Eno River. Durham is the heart of the four-county Durham-Chapel Hill Metropolitan Area. It had a population 649,903 as of the 2020 census.
